My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 has announced a live-action anime movie adaptation with a visual and trailer, with the release date in Japan set for March 28, 2025. It will star Ryuto Sakuma as Akito Yamada and Mizuki Yamashita as Akane Kinoshita. You can watch the teaser trailer below.
Yuka Yasukawa will direct the live-action movie, with Anna Kawahara serving as the screenwriter.
Mashiro writes and illustrates the My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999 manga, also known as Loving Yamada at Lv999!. It was first serialized on Comic Smart’s Ganma! website in March 2019. As of April 2024, nine volumes have been released. Mangamo publishes the manga digitally in English and recently launched a print edition in collaboration with Penguin Random House’s Inklore imprint, with the first volume released in print in April 2024.
Its first anime adaptation was a TV anime animated by studio MADHOUSE, which aired for 13 episodes from April 2023 to June 2023. It placed 4th in our Spring 2023 Anime Awards. The anime was directed by Morio Asaka, with Yasuhiro Nakanishi on series composition, Kunihiko Hamada as the character designer/chief animation director, and music by De De Mouse and Mito.
The story follows Akane Kinoshita, a female college student who breaks up with her boyfriend after he cheats on her with a girl he met in an online game. She treats her heartbreak by playing a game herself, where she meets Akito Yamada, a skilled gamer who initially doesn’t really care about it (or anything, really). The two are members of the same guild, and they slowly build their relationship both in-game and in real life.
