The nonfiction gourmet manga NABETAMA: Getting Shots on a Frying Pan (Nabe ni Dangan o Ukenagara) is officially getting a TV anime adaptation, with studio J.C.STAFF in charge of the animation. It is set to release in 2027. The studio was previously also confirmed to be in charge of the upcoming anime adaptation of Overgeared.
The announcement includes a teaser visual with the tagline: “A beautiful girl (old man) begins a crazy gourmet journey around the world.”
Written by Juntaro Aoki and illustrated by Shin Moriyama, the series has been serialized on KADOKAWA’s Comic Newtype platform and has released five volumes so far.
Rather than following a fictional adventure, Getting Shots on a Frying Pan combines nonfiction travel reporting with comedy and gourmet. The story follows Juntaro, a manga creator whose excessive consumption of two-dimensional media has left him perceiving every person he meets as a beautiful anime girl. Driven by a desire to discover what he calls “50,000-point cuisine,” he travels around the world in search of unusual local dishes and lesser-known culinary experiences.
Original creator Junta Aoki shared the following message following the anime announcement:
“Probably, This is one of the craziest Manga ever.
Welcome to this crazy era of Japan, where such manga is being animated.
I don’t think there’s ever been an anime where I’m this excited to see the overseas reaction.
To all the readers in Japan, thank you… and I’m sorry.
(There are certain expressions that can only be written in Japanese because of language restrictions, so English is convenient.)”
