The Fist of the North Star official X (formerly Twitter) revealed that “big” news regarding the upcoming anime remake will be revealed in 2 days on June 27 in Japan (June 26 in most other regions). The post read, “Countdown: 2 days until big news on the anime ‘First of the North Star’ !!“
The new Fist of the North Star anime was first announced in September 2023. Manga author Buronson shared that the basic idea behind this new remake was to respect the original work, hoping that advances in animation would bring out something different for this adaptation. Artist Tetsuo Hara revealed his surprise at the adaptation, adding, “I am very much looking forward to seeing how the pictures that I painted with all my heart 40 years ago will be reincarnated and brought to life by the production staff, who are full of love for the original work!“
Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump serialized Fist of the North Star from September 1983 to August 1988. It’s among the best-selling manga of all time, with over 100 million copies in circulation. Toyoo Ashida directed the anime adaptation at Toei Animation, which aired from October 1984 to March 1987. A sequel series began airing straight after, concluding in February 1988. VIZ Media licenses Fist of the North Star in North America, describing the first volume:
One day, a wanderer appears out of the wasteland to bring justice to the guilty and hope to the people—a warrior named Ken, a man who bears seven scars upon his chest and holds the secret of a mysterious martial art known as Hokuto Shinken, the Divine Fist of the North Star!
