English-language light novel platform NOVELOUS, operated by Japanese publisher Shogakukan, has opened public voting for the MyAnimeList x Honeyfeed Writing Contest, which aims to spotlight original English-written stories inspired by anime and light novels.
The contest was originally announced in February 2025 as a collaboration between MyAnimeList, Honeyfeed, and Shogakukan, shortly after the NOVELOUS app launched. It invited global authors to submit web novels based on two creative prompts: “Love Transcends Boundaries” and “The End is Now.”
From nearly 500 submissions, judges have selected 10 finalists, 5 for each theme. Readers across North America can now vote for their favorite entries through NOVELOUS, available on iOS and Android. Finalists have a chance to have their stories published on NOVELOUS alongside translated Japanese titles like Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End and Detective Conan.
In addition to publication, the contest awards $3,000 each to:
- The highest-voted story in “Love Transcends Boundaries”
- The top story under “The End is Now”
- One Judges’ Choice winner
Public voting will be through July 24, 2025, and winners will be revealed on August 4.
NOVELOUS offers serialized manga, light novels, and webtoons, with access supported by in-app currency (Gold Coins for long-term reading, Silver Coins for short-term access).
Shogakukan, known for publishing major franchises and for launching the Manga One app in Japan, continues its efforts to globalize Japanese storytelling with NOVELOUS.
