Netflix describes the Parasyte: The Grey live-action series:
Parasitic life-forms that live off of human hosts strive to grow their power and disrupt society. A group of humans wage war against the rising evil.
The Parasyte manga by Hitoshi Iwaaki was published under Kodansha’s Morning Open Zokan from August to October 1989 before moving to the Monthly Afternoon magazine from August 1989 to December 1994. It also got a spin-off manga titled Parasyte Reversi which was serialized on Kodansha’s Comic Days from March 2018 to May 2021.
Kodansha USA has licensed the original manga series in English, describing the plot as:
They arrive in silence and darkness. They descend from the skies. They have a hunger for human flesh. They are everywhere. They are parasites, alien creatures who must invade—and take control of—a human host to survive. And once they have infected their victims, they can assume any deadly form they choose: monsters with giant teeth, winged demons, creatures with blades for hands. But most have chosen to conceal their lethal purpose behind ordinary human faces. So no one knows their secret—except an ordinary high school student. Shin is battling for control of his own body against an alien parasite, but can he find a way to warn humanity of the horrors to come?
An anime adaptation Parasyte -the maxim- by Madhouse aired from October 2014 to March 2015 for 24 episodes. The series also got a two-part Japanese live-action film adaptation in 2014-2015.
