The Animezing North: BLUE LOCK event also coincides with the anticipation of the upcoming second season which is set to release next month. Anime Corner had the honor of speaking to BLUE LOCK producer Ryoya Arisawa at this year’s Anime Expo, where he hinted at a more refined animation experience as they try to bring something new to the table.
BLUE LOCK is a manga written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura. It has been serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine since 2018 and has also received an anime adaptation by Eight Bit in 2023. The second season of the anime, titled BLUE LOCK VS. U-20 Japan, is set to premiere on October 5, 2024, and will run for 14 episodes. Ani-One Asia streams the first season under their ULTRA channel membership, and describes the plot:
Only the most self-centered player can be the best striker in the world! In order to create a better soccer team for Japan to win the World Cup, a project called BLUE LOCK is launched to cultivate strikers. Three hundred talented strikers from high schools all over Japan are isolated and pitted against each other. Fighting against 299 other young soccer players, who would finally earn the right to become the national team’s striker? Now, the most exciting soccer anime begins.
It’s time for the egoists to take center stage. No team play here; it’s just straight ego! Animezing North: BLUE LOCK will run from September 14-29, 2024. For more updates, check out the SM Supermalls website and SM City North Edsa’s Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter). See you there, strikers!
