PHOENIX: EDEN17 Anime, Based on Tezuka's Phoenix, Announced

An anime adaptation of Osamu Tezuka’s Phoenix manga, titled PHOENIX: EDEN17, has been announced for 2023. The anime will stream on Disney Plus next year and STUDIO4℃ will be in charge of the animation. Check out the teaser trailer:

Phoenix is Tezuka’s unfinished manga series. There are a total of 12 volumes out and each one tells a separate story set in a different era. The manga was originally serialized from 1954 to 1988 in multiple magazines. The story was never finished because Osamu Tezuka died in 1989. He is a well-known author, known for many works, including Astro Boy, Dororo, Black Jack, and more. He played a key role in popularizing manga and is often referred to as “the godfather of manga.”

Viz Media published all the volumes in English. The licensor describes the plot as:
With grand historical sweep, this self-contained opening volume of Osamu Tezuka’s acclaimed Phoenix saga is an epic account of the human spirit in a time of chaos and warfare, where would-be warrior Nagi and his crew struggle against the elements, invaders, and history itself.

The teaser trailer describes the plot as of PHOENIX: EDEN17 as (names are subject to change):
Romi and her partner leave the Earth, which is facing the end of its life, and head for the planet Eden 17 to start a new life. However, life on the planet is already extinct. The two struggle to start their lives anew, but a series of hardships force Romi to endure even more trouble.
