You can see the characters’ individuals visuals and their voice actors’ comments below.

Tatewaki Kuno (CV: Tomokazu Sugita)

Character introduction: A second-year student at Furinkan High School and a classmate of Nabiki Tendo. He is the captain of the kendo club and calls himself ‘the supernova of the high school kendo world, the blue thunder of Furinkan High.’ He has feelings for Akane.
Tomokazu Sugita’s comment: “I’m Tomokazu Sugita, playing the role of Tatewaki Kuno. His character is not a strange or eccentric person, but rather, I portray him as someone who is pure towards all things. Like thunder striking from the heavens, I hope I can add a fresh and direct color to the work. Please take care of me. The game I got most immersed in is Bakuretsu Ranto-hen (Ranma 1/2: Hard Battle).”

Kodachi Kuno (CV: Ayane Sakura)

Character introduction: She is Tatewaki Kuno’s younger sister, a first-year student at St. Hebereke Academy. She is a skilled practitioner of martial arts rhythmic gymnastics, known as the Black Rose Kodachi.
Ayane Sakura’s comment: “Regarding Ranma 1/2… I feel like it has become an inseparable part of my life. I intend to carry on the soul of Kodachi Kuno, a character who has been loved for so long, with all my heart and spirit. The atmosphere at the recording site is very warm and stimulating. I will never forget when the senior actors told me, ‘That’s the one from back in the day, let it out here.’ It was like a release from the tension I had been holding. I hope both long-time fans and new fans can enjoy it. Please take care of the new Ranma.”

Tofu Ono (CV: Toshiyuki Morikawa)

Character introduction: He is the young doctor of Ono Bone Clinic. A skilled practitioner of bone-setting techniques, he is also a master of martial arts. The name of his skeleton model is Betty-chan.
Toshiyuki Morikawa’s comment: “I’m Toshiyuki Morikawa, and I will be playing Dr. Tofu this time. It is a great honor to be involved again in one of Rumiko Takahashi’s works after so long. I’m really happy if I can express Dr. Tofu’s charmingly unpredictable nature well (laughs). Ah, Kasumi-san… I’m waiting nervously for the day we meet!!”

Mikado Sanzenin & Azusa Shiratori (CV: Mamoru Miyano & Aoi Yuki)

Character descriptions:

  • Mikado Sanzenin: A student at Kolhotz Academy High School. He partners with Azusa Shiratori as the “Golden Pair” in martial arts figure skating. He is a narcissist, always thinking about women.
  • Azusa Shiratori: A student at Kolhotz Academy High School. She partners with Mikado Sanzenin as the “Golden Pair” in martial arts figure skating. She loves cute things and often gives names to things she likes and takes them home without permission.

Mamoru Miyano’s comment: “I never imagined that Ranma 1/2 would return as a new work in the Reiwa era, so I was really shocked! Back in the day, I loved it so much that I watched the anime and even bought the CD of the theme song (laughs). It feels like a dream to be able to appear in such a series. The recording has already started, and hearing all those familiar voices from back then on set makes my ears so happy. I will do my best to play Mikado Sanzenin in all his narcissistic glory, so please look forward to it!”

Aoi Yuki’s comment: “I’m truly overjoyed to be able to participate as a cast member in Ranma 1/2. I never expected a day like this would come. Standing in front of the microphone with all the legendary voice actors filled me with excitement and nervousness, but I transformed that energy into Azusa’s cute and lively character. I’ll do my best to make Azusa a lovable and charming character, so please support me!”

The anime remake is coming over 30 years after the original adaptation ended. The announcement was made shortly after another adaptation of the legendary mangaka Rumiko Takahashi’s, URUSEI YATSURA, finished its reboot broadcast. You can also watch the recently-revealed trailer with English subtitles.

Rumiko began the Ranma 1/2 as her third major series (following URUSEI YATSURA and Maison Ikkoku) in August 1987. The manga was serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine until March 1996. It ran for a total of 407 chapters, which were compiled into 38 volumes. VIZ Media licensed the manga in English.

The story follows martial artist Ranma Saotome and his father Genma, who end up falling into a cursed spring and getting cursed: Ranma turns into a girl whenever he’s splashed with cold, while his father turns into a panda. Plenty of martial arts follows in the comedy series, with Akane, Ranma’s arranged fiancée, also not exactly being a fan of the whole situation.

Studio Deen animated the original anime adaptation, which spread in two series: Ranma 1/2 and Ranma 1/2 Nettohen. The two anime together ran for a total of 161 episodes from 1989 to 1992. In addition, it released 12 OVAs and three films. In 2011, the franchise also received a live-action TV special.
