Rascal Does Not Dream Confirms English Dub for Season 1 and Dreaming Girl Movie

Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai TV anime and Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl movie are getting English dubs, as announced earlier at Anime NYC. Six years after its initial release, AoButa fans can rejoice as the much-loved supernatural romance anime is finally joining its sequel movies. The release date for the dubs has yet to be announced, but the English VAs for the later movies will reprise their roles.

Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai originally aired during the fall 2018 anime season. Soichi Masui directed the series. Satomi Tamura handled the character design and served as the chief animation director in collaboration with Akira Takata. The follow-up movie Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl screened theatrically in Japan the following year. Soichi Masui reprised his role as director and Masahiro Yokotani handled the movie’s screenplay. CloverWorks animated both adaptations and their production was handled by the AOBUTA Project.

The Dreaming Girl movie was followed by Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out and Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid movies, which screened last year and were also directed by Masui. Both movies were dubbed in English and the cast included:

  • Kaede Azusagawa: Kayli Mills
  • Mai Sakurajima: Erica Mendez
  • Nodoka Toyohama: Cristina Vee
  • Rio Futaba: Jenny Yokobori
  • Sakuta Azusagawa: Stephen Fu
  • Shoko Makinohara: Risa Mei
  • Tomoe Koga: Lizzie Freeman

The franchise is getting another TV anime, set to cover the University Arc. It will premiere in 2015 under the Rascal Does Not Dream of Santa Claus title.

It’s interesting to note that last year’s Blu-ray edition of the anime’s first season and the movie was “mistakenly” labeled with an English dub sticker.

Hajime Kamoshida’s ‘Rascal Does Not Dream‘ series, published by Kadokawa, currently consists of 14 novels. The 15th and final novel, Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dear Friend, is set to be released on October 10. The series follows Sakuta Azusagawa as he deals with the aftermath and complications of a rare disease known as ‘Adolescent Syndrome’ a disease that seems to only affect teenagers and causes everything from physical trauma to supernatural issues. But because of that illness, he meets the famed actor Mai Sakurajima as she walks around a local library wearing nothing but a bunny suit and tries to get the attention of a world that’s forgotten her. As he tries to help her through struggles, Sakuta’s own encounter with adolescent syndrome comes to the forefront, and the story expands more than he could have ever imagined.
