Sengoku Youko Manga Gets Three-Cour Anime Adaptation by WHITE FOX

Satoshi Mizukami’s Sengoku Youko manga is getting a three-cour anime adaptation by studio WHITE FOX (Re:ZERO: Starting Life in Another World). The anime will premiere in January of 2024, as announced with a visual and trailer. The plot follows two brothers, who are traveling in Sengoku-era Japan while trying to keep the peace and battle evil.

Kagetsu Aizawa is directing the Sengoku Youko adaptation, with Jukki Hanada on series composition. Yosuke Okuda is in charge of the character designs, while Evan Call is composing the music. The cast has also been revealed:

  • Soma Saito as Jinka
  • Yuki Takada as Tama
  • Ryohei Kimura as Shinsuke
  • Tomoyo Kurosawa as Sakugan
  • Hiroki Nanami as Senya
  • Maaya Uchida as Tsukiko

The anime will adapt the Sengoku Youko manga, which ran in Mag Garden’s Monthly Comic Blade from 2007 to 2014 and then on the Comic Blade web platform from 2014 to 2016. The reason for the move was the discontinuation of the magazine publication. It has a total of 100 chapters, compiled into 17 volumes. Tokyopop licensed it in English and describes the plot as:

The world is divided into two factions: humans and monsters called katawara. Despite being a katawara, Tama loves humans and vows to protect them from evil, even if it means fighting her own kind. Her stepbrother Jinka, however, hates humans, despite mostly being one. The siblings are joined by a cowardly swordsman named Shinsuke, who wants to learn how to become strong.
The people they meet, places they see, and creatures they battle will be legendary!
