The previously announced Senpai Is an Otokonoko anime will begin broadcasting in July 2024. Studio Project 9 is animating the series under the direction of Shinsuke Yanagi (Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki).
Yoriko Tomita is handling the series composition for the anime while Shoto Shinkai is in charge of the character designs. Yukari Hashimoto is composing the music. The main cast includes Shuichiro Umeda as Makoto Hanaokam, Akira Sekina as Saki Aoi, and Yuma Uchida as Ryuji Taiga.
The Senpai Is an Otokonoko anime is based on the manga written and illustrated by Pom that was digitally published through Line Manga from December 7, 2019, to December 30, 2021. The series ended with chapter 100 instead of continuing because Pom stated she wanted to “end the series on a high note” despite the story being open to continuing further. Ichijinsha acquired the title in 2021 and has since published seven volumes. Volume 8 is set to release in April 2024.
Webtoon is distributing the manga in English and they described it as follows:
Can true love really overcome any obstacles? Saki, a high school student, confesses her feelings to Makoto. Taken aback, Makoto reveals his secret, but the sudden discovery doesn’t seem to bother Saki who is already head over heels for him. After being rejected, Saki asks Ryuji, Makoto’s childhood friend, for some advice on how to win his heart. A love triangle unfolds when Ryuji realizes that he might also have some feelings for his old friend.
