Shinchan the Movie: Our Dinosaur Diary just landed in the Philippines, and my friends at Muse Asia invited me to see a special screening of this funny summer adventure. It follows the unique friendship between the mischievous Shin and a baby dinosaur named Nana. The movie is basically a cute anime version of Jurassic Park, but through the lens of Shinchan’s classic, weird, chaotic aesthetic.
The adventure begins when Shin and his friends visit Tokyo’s newest dinosaur theme park, and Shiro befriends a baby dinosaur, Nana. They instantly bond and become family, creating extraordinary memories for their summer. However, disaster strikes when dinosaurs invade the city, and they discover that Nana may be hiding a secret.
The first half of the movie features plenty of light-hearted adventure and drama, while the second half goes crazy with its action-packed fights and dinosaur chase scenes. The visuals are charmingly simple, smooth, and colorful. Yet, the story is a lively roller coaster that deeply connects its audience with the quirky characters, and I, for one, enjoyed laughing my heart out the entire time. From Shinchan’s cheekiness, comedic punchlines, running gags, and the dancing dinosaurs — the movie is hilariously absurd and undeniably entertaining.
That said, my favorite part about Shinchan the Movie: Our Dinosaur Diary, and why I believe it’s more special than others in the franchise, is its emotional ending. It has a sense of depth that makes the story feel much more meaningful. It stirs up realistic feelings and values of family, friendship, sacrifice, and growth. When the credits rolled and the lights turned on in the cinema, I realized (while wiping away my tears) that this was the kind of film that sticks for a lifetime, not just for its laughs, but for the profound emotions it slipped along the way.
All in all, this movie is packed with nostalgic, wacky comedy, wild action, and an unexpectedly heartwarming, touching adventure. To conclude this Shinchan the Movie: Our Dinosaur Diary review, I wholeheartedly recommend it, especially since it’s a lighthearted watching experience that children, adults, and families can enjoy. Don’t miss this on the big screen, and make sure to sit through the credits to see the Dinosaur Diary, and then the post-credit scene!
