Even discounting its initial members, Solo Leveling‘s extra 348k fans on MyAnimeList alone puts it as the most popular anime of Winter 2024, narrowly beating Classroom of the Elite‘s 325k and miles above third place Mashle with 266k. “Members” data comprises all MyAnimeList users under categories like Watching, Completed, and more, with Solo Leveling‘s specific breakdown reading: Watching (234,783), Completed (173,487), On-Hold (173,487), Dropped (5,132), and Plan to Watch (146,864).

Solo Leveling capitalized on its fame by announcing a second season – Arise From the Shadow, immediately after the final episode aired. The series captivated fans with its action sequences and hype moments throughout, with Anime Corner’s Solo Leveling finale review saying, that without question, the series has created “one of the most satisfying ends to a season of shonen anime that I’ve ever seen.” The series fared well on Anime Corner’s final Winter 2024 Anime Rankings – Week 12 but lost most of the limelight to the record-breaking The Dangers in My Heart Season 2 (BokuYaba), which was by far the most beloved anime of Winter 2024 with our voters. BokuYaba was also the best-rated title of the season on MAL, with an 8.92 score compared to Solo Leveling‘s 8.36.

Solo Leveling was animated by A-1 Pictures, with direction by Shunsuke Nakashige, screenplay by Noboru Kimura, and music by Hiroyuki Sawano. The series streams on Crunchyroll, and is described:
They say whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, but that’s not the case for the world’s weakest hunter Sung Jinwoo. After being brutally slaughtered by monsters in a high-ranking dungeon, Jinwoo came back with the System, a program only he could see, that’s leveling him up in every way. Now, he’s inspired to discover the secrets behind his powers and the dungeon that spawned them.
