Solo Leveling Gets First Official Meme Coin, Backed By Webtoon Studio

This week, U.S. company PIP Labs’ Story Foundation announced a partnership with Solo Leveling for the franchise’s first official meme coin, backed by the official webtoon studio and IP holder REDICE STUDIO. A Solo Leveling meme coin would be akin to a paid digital badge to showcase support for the series. The tokens are aimed at the global market (excluding Korea).

Story adds, “These tokens are non-transferable and are not being offered or sold to the public. No offer or solicitation,” suggesting that tokens may become available via airdrops/rewards for completing tasks (e.g., joining a community) and/or distributed to select partners.

Story also says (via NewsWire Korea) that it’s considering issuing Solo Leveling RWA (Real-World Asset) tokens on its blockchain. This means that holders will be able to acquire Solo Leveling-based tokens, with ownership details recorded on the blockchain, and ownership of these tokens will confer real-world benefits to the holder. “Fans gain the potential to move beyond simple consumption, sharing in the work’s growth and value while forming a new fandom-centric economy,” Story says. Discussions are underway to add IP elements, such as “characters and worldviews,” to Story’s blockchain.

A character or worldview token might include, for example, a Sung Jinwoo digital token or a setting like an original story. Through the implementation of “automatic settlement and transparent distribution structures,” a fan could acquire such a token, permitting them to create derivative content, including “merchandise, games, and videos,” establishing a contract between holders and IP owners for automatic revenue splits. Effectively, Solo Leveling RWA token holders may be able to acquire a license to develop merch, games, videos, and apps—as Story’s CEO adds below—receiving revenue while the IP holders get royalties.

Story CEO Seung Yoon Lee said, “Solo Leveling is a representative example of building a global fandom. This merger will open up a new IP ecosystem that encompasses remix culture, a fandom-centered economy, a new token-based participation model, and even AI and consumer applications.

Jang Jung-sook, the CEO of REDICE STUDIO (Solo Leveling webtoon studio), added, “Solo Leveling has always been a story of growth and leap forward. Now, we hope that the IP will expand beyond the work to Web3, enabling fans and creators around the world to write a new chapter.
