The first day at school with Anya’s killer punch is truly one to remember, but Spy x Family episode 7 doesn’t fall far from it either. Anya’s second day at Eden Academy is filled with a lot of scary things — bullying from classmates, difficult lessons (the Pythagorean theorem, really!?), and the most important one, having the courage to Damian Desmond. It’s a lot of pressure on a little girl, but the best thing about this episode is that it ends in such a positive way. Also, the Friendship Scheme seems to be developing in a very interesting way… As they say, one’s first love just hits different. (ba-dum-tss.)
My favorite part of Spy x Family episode 7 is definitely the apology scene. Before that, we have Twilight doing the silliest things just to make sure Anya talks to Damian. We also get to see how much of an instantly wonderful friend Becky is. (Honestly, I’m so happy for Anya.) While Damian’s friends are teasing Anya’s stubby legs, Damian is finding himself having “fuzzy feelings” for Anya that he doesn’t quite understand. It’s very fun and adorable to watch, but the one that really got me is Damian’s new point-of-view of Anya with sparkly shoujo manga eyes! All these kids are too cute.
All in all, I would say that this is another spectacular episode from Spy x Family. I absolutely love how the story is smoothly developing, especially with the themes of friendship and family. Spy x Family episode 7 highlighted what a family dynamic looks like. We have Twilight’s expectations and doubts, Anya’s pressure to do her best, and Yor being the balance and foundation between them. It’s heartwarming to see how each of them affects each other and how it comes together in the end. I’m glad that Twilight chooses to put Anya’s well-being and happiness first. It already goes to show how caring and kind he really is. He doesn’t realize it yet, but the steps he’s taking are most definitely toward what a real Father and family are.
The same goes for Yor, the mother of the Forger family who Twilight depends on. “You’re no outsider, and this isn’t just my family business. You’re the mother of the Forger household, after all. I’m counting on you to cover for my shortcomings.”The character growth of everyone in Spy x Family episode 7 is beautifully executed. Just like that, the ending song closes the episode elegantly.
But wait, there’s more! A post-credit scene reveals Yuri, the younger brother of Yor, who apparently doesn’t know about the marriage! It’s hilarious, and I can’t wait to see what shenanigans will happen next. The next episode of Spy x Family will air on Saturday, May 28, at 23:00 JST and will be available to watch with English subtitles on Crunchyroll, Netflix, Muse Asia, and Bilibili in select regions.
