Takayuki Hirao, Shingo Adachi and CLAP Reunite for Wasted Chef, New Original Movie Project

Wasted Chef, a new original movie project from director Takayuki Hirao, is officially in production. The movie will mark a reunion of the creative team that worked on Pompo: The Cinéphile: Shingo Adachi will be in charge of character designs, while Kenta Matsukuma will be composing the music. Studio CLAP (also known for The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes) will be animating the movie.

Not a lot of details are known about Wasted Chef at this time, although the official announcement teases that is might be cooking-themed due to the title while referring to the production team as “seasoned.” In addition to Pompo: The Cinéphile, Takayuki Hirao is known as the director of God Eater and Futakoi Alternative anime. He directed Magical Sisters Yoyo & Nene and directed and storyboarded The Garden of Sinners: Paradox Paradigm (both at studio ufotable). Shingo Adachi, known as the character designer for Sword Art Online, recently also had his directorial debut on the Lycoris Recoil original anime. Kenta Matsukuma composed the music for Kamen Rider Black Sun.

Takayuki Hirao will be participating in Anime Expo 2023, scheduled to take place from July 1 to 4 in Los Angeles. During the event, fans can expect a special screening of Pompo: The Cinéphile, followed by a director Q&A session. Perhaps new information about the Wasted Chef movie (produced by Kadokawa) will be announced then.
