On July 17, Netflix released its latest Engagement Report, covering ~99% of all viewing from January to June. Netflix watch-time exceeded 95 billion hours, with even legacy anime titles like Naruto (and Shippuden) garnering ~45 million views (total hours watched divided by runtime in hours) across all its seasons. A recent anime in SAKAMOTO DAYS ranked 33rd of all titles on Netflix in hours watched and 79th in views, taking the #1 spot for anime in the first half of 2025. It should be noted that Netflix’s divisions for seasons aren’t necessarily official, leading to Demon Slayer‘s second season being divided into Mugen Train Arc and Entertainment District Arc. In other circumstances, Demon Slayer Season 2 should rank second with 35.9 million hours watched or 9.2 million views. Demon Slayer had a total of 135.5 million hours watched or 22.7 million views across all its seasons.
Grouping both Solo Leveling seasons as ‘Season 1’ is also debatable, given Netflix doesn’t apply that consistent treatment for DAN DA DAN Season 1. Just outside of the top 10 was The Apothecary Diaries Season 2, with 45.7 million hours watched or 5 million views. Long-running titles that aired continuously, such as Naruto Shippuden and Hunter x Hunter, were also broken down into seasons.
Netflix live-action adaptations of popular anime also saw decent viewership; Kakegurui live-action adaptation BET (ranked #83 overall in views and was recently renewed for a second season) racked up 78.9 million hours watched. Meanwhile, over three years since its premiere, Alice in Borderland Season 1 garnered 68.6 million hours watched. Devil May Cry Season 1 notably pulled 71.7 million hours / 18.2 million views.
The second season of SAKAMOTO DAYS, Netflix’s most watched anime in the first half of 2025, is currently streaming weekly. The series is described:
Sakamoto enjoys a quiet life in retirement with his family. But one day, an old colleague demands he return to the assassin world — or face consequences.
