The Apothecary Diaries anime will be having another special live program on June 20, as announced on their official X (formerly Twitter) account. The program will feature voice actors Aoi Yuki (Maomao), Takeo Otsuka (Jinshi), Asami Seto (Shisui), and Kaori Nazuka (Suirei) as they look back on the story so far.
The special live program will be using the anime’s time slot on June 20 at 10:30 PM JST, which means there will be no new episode that week. In turn, the broadcast of The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 Episode 23 (overall Episode 47) is scheduled to resume on June 27 instead.
The anime’s calendar was also posted, which revealed the complete broadcast schedule for May 2025:
- June 6: Episode 45
- June 13: Episode 46
- June 20: Special Live Program
- June 27: Episode 47
- July 4: Episode 48 (Finale)
In case you missed it, the manga series by Itsuki Nanao and Nekokurage on Square Enix’s Monthly Big Gangan recently announced a sudden hiatus. It is also worth noting that The Apothecary Diaries is based on the light novel series written by Natsu Hyuga, which has released a total of 15 Volumes. Additionally, Volume 16 is set to release in Japan on May 30, the same release date as the English-translated version of Volume 14.

The Apothecary Diaries Announces Spin-off Manga of Xiaolan’s Point of View
The Apothecary Diaries is a Japanese light novel series written by Natsu Hyuga and illustrated by Toko Shino. Shunfunotomo’s Hero Bunko publishes the light novel series, J-Novel Club digitally publishes it in English, and Square Enix publishes the English novels in print. TOHO Animation and OML animated the first season in 2023, while the second season is currently ongoing. J-Novel Club describes the plot of The Apothecary Diaries:
In the East is a land ruled by an emperor, whose consorts and serving women live in a sprawling complex known as the hougong, the rear palace. Maomao, an unassuming girl raised in an unassuming town by her apothecary father, never imagined the rear palace would have anything to do with her—until she was kidnapped and sold into service there. Though she looks ordinary, Maomao has a quick wit, a sharp mind, and an extensive knowledge of medicine. That’s her secret, until she encounters a resident of the palace at least as perceptive as she is: the head eunuch, Jinshi. He sees through Maomao’s façade and makes her a lady-in-waiting to none other than the Emperor’s favorite consort… so she can taste the lady’s food for poison!
