The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto) revealed the preview for episode 5 on October 28. The episode is titled “Coverted Operations” and it will air on November 5.
After the recovery of the Consort, Lihua, Maomao goes back to her normal life in Gyokuyo’s palace. One day, while she was at the doctor’s office, a eunuch came to her with a request for help in breaking a curse. Upon discovering what the curse is, Maomao prescribed an ointment instead. She is soon summoned by Jinshi when he sees this exchange. Later, when Maomao returns, she sees everyone excitingly preparing for the garden party.
Based on the preview shown, the next episode of The Apothecary Diaries seems to cover the start of the garden party section of the story:
The Apothecary Diaries is based on the light novel series of the same name. The light novel was written by Natsu Hyuga and illustrated by Toko Shino. It inspired a manga adaptation written by Itsuki Nanaro and illustrated by Nekokurage. The light novel series is serialized by Shunfunotomo while the manga adaptation is published by Square Enix and is being serialized under Monthly Big GanGan.
The series has also inspired a short mini-anime series called Maomao’s Diaries (Maomao no Hitorigoto). The mini-anime series stars the main character, Maomao, as she explains the key items shown during the week’s current episode. Maomao’s Diaries can be seen on Toho Animation’s official YouTube channel.
Square Enix is publishing the English version of the manga adaptation while the light novel series is licensed and published by J-Novel Club. J-Novel Club described the series as:
In the East is a land ruled by an Emperor, where his consorts and serving women live in a spiraling complex known as the hougong, the rear palace. Maomao, an unassuming girl raised in an unassuming town by her apothecary father, neve imagined that the rear palace have anything to do with her – until she was kidnaped and sold into service there.
