The Apothecary Diaries Unveils Trailer for Episode 8

The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto) anime series has released the preview for its 8th episode on November 18. The episode is titled “Wheat Stalks” and it will air on November 25. The episode is summarized as:

The day after staying the night at her father’s home, Maomao was taken to the brothel by a courtesan-in-training, who was looking for Luomen, the pharmacist. At the brothel, a courtesan and a man had drunk poison and were lying there. Maomao, who encounters incidents wherever she goes, quickly saves them and treats them with Luomen. Maomao leaves the brothel once the two have recovered, but feels strange about the stories she heard. Thus, she deduces the truth behind the suicide attempt.

The Apothecary Diaries is a light novel series written by Natsu Hyuga and illustrated by Toko Shino. It is serialized by Shunfunotomo. The light novel series inspired a manga adaptation and anime series. The manga adaptation is written by Itsuki Nanao and illustrated by Nekokurage and is published by Square Enix and is serialized in Monthly GanGan. Norihiro Naganuma is in charge of directing the anime series with TOHO Animation and OML is in charge of producing the animation.

The series also inspired a short mini-anime series called Maoamo’s Diaries (Maoamo no Hitorigoto). Maomao’s Diaries features the main character Maoamo as she explains the key items that were shown during the week’s current episode. Maomao’s Diaries mini-anime series can be seen on TOHO Animation’s official YouTube channel.

The light novel series is licensed and published digitally by J-Novel Club. The English version of the manga adaptation is licensed and published by Square Enix. Square Enix will also publish the English version of the light novel series physically starting from May 2024.

The Apothecary Diaries anime series is streaming on Crunchyroll. The platform describes the plot as:

Maomao lived a peaceful life with her apothecary father. Until one day, she’s sold as a lowly servant to the emperor’s palace. But she wasn’t meant for a compliant life among royalty. So when imperial heirs fall ill, she decides to step in and find a cure! This catches the eye of Jinshi, a handsome palace official who promotes her. Now, she’s making a name for herself solving medical mysteries!
