The Case Study of Vanitas manga will be returning from its hiatus on May 22, as announced in Gangan Joker’s May 2023 issue. The issue was released on April 21 and it included The Case Study of Vanitas in its previews for the next month’s issue. A year after the hiatus announcement, the manga will finally resume serialization in Gangan Joker’s June 2023 issue, which will feature a colored center page.
Author Jun Mozuchi also announced the return of The Case Study of Vanitas manga on Twitter on April 24. The tweet included an invitation to look forward to the upcoming chapter, two manga pages, and the quote “Let’s unravel it again. Memories, records, stories.”

The manga had a previous hiatus in April 2020 due to work safety concerns during the COVID-19 pandemic. It resumed again in November of that year.
The Case Study of Vanitas is a steampunk-vampire-themed manga series by Jun Mozuchi. It has been serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly Gangan Joker magazine since 2015. Studio BONES animated the series in 2021 and has 24 episodes in total. Yen Press releases the English versions of the manga and describes the plot:
“Rumors revolving around The Book of Vanitas, a clockwork grimoire of dubious reputation, draw Noé, a young vampire in search of a friend’s salvation, to Paris. What awaits him in the City of Flowers, however, is not long hours treading the pavement or rifling through dusty bookshops in search of the tome. Instead, his quarry comes to him…in the arms of a man claiming to be a vampire doctor! Thrust into a conflict that threatens the peace between humans and vampires, will Noé cast in his lot with the curious and slightly unbalanced Vanitas and his quest to save vampirekind?“
