The Dinner Table Detective mystery novel series officially has an anime in production, with the release date set for 2025. The anime will feature original character designs by Oreco Tachibana, the creator of the Firefly Wedding manga. No other details were revealed about the announcement, besides an illustration by Tachibana.
The Dinner Table Detective (Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de) is a mystery novel series written by Tokuya Higashigawa and featuring illustrations by Yusuke Nakamura. Shogakukan published three volumes between September 2010 and December 2012. The same creators made a sequel novel titled Shin Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de, for which Shogakukan released two volumes between March 2021 and September 2024.
Tokuya Higashigawa shared a comment regarding the anime announcement:
“I am deeply moved to hear that The Dinner Table Detective is being adapted into an anime. As the original author, I am excited to see how the characters, who have only existed in my imagination, will come to life and move and speak on screen.
I sincerely hope that not only fans of the original work and mystery enthusiasts, but also those unfamiliar with the story, will enjoy it.”
There is also a manga adaptation by Aya Kawase, which was serialized in Shogakukan’s Petit Comic magazine in 2011. The series also has a 10-episode live-action series, as well as a stage play.
