The Summer Hikaru Died Reveals New Story Visual and First Behind-the-Scenes Anime Video

The Summer Hikaru Died anime revealed a new story visual ahead of today’s episode, along with starting its “making-of” behind-the-scenes series. The series is co-produced by CyberAgent and KADOKAWA, and Netflix is streaming it worldwide.

Episode 7 “Resolution” will begin streaming on August 16, and you can see the new visual below.

The Summer Hikaru Died – New Story Visual

Following its debut on July 5, the anime adaptation of The Summer Hikaru Died reached the top spot (#1) on both Netflix Japan daily rankings and ABEMA’s anime ranking. It also topped our latest weekly ranking in Week 6, becoming the first anime since Takopi’s Original Sin to win a Summer 2025 poll.

The first episode of the “making-of-series” is themed around “horror,” and it “dives deep into the chilling side of the production, featuring exclusive interviews with director Ryohei Takeshita and key staff, plus never before-seen production materials you won’t find anywhere else.” You can watch the video below.

The Summer Hikaru Died (Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Mokumokuren. It began serialization on Kadokawa Shoten’s Young Ace Up website in August 2021 and has been compiled into 7 volumes as of July 4, 2025.

The manga topped the 2023 edition of Takarajimasha’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! list of best manga for male readers, and it was also nominated for the 16th Manga Taisho. Yen Press licensed the manga in English.
