The Way of the Househusband TV anime premieres on April 8, and Netflix released the first trailer on March 2, 2021, which featured a specific style of animation and got some negative reactions. However, according to an article by Comic Natalie, it seems to have been done on purpose. Chiaki Kon (in charge of directing the animation at J.C. Staff) said: “The producers said ‘Make an animation that looks like a manga! Never move it!’” Continuing that that was a lot of work, she also said that there were scenes where she even thought that it’d be easier to just draw them in a traditional way.
In addition, the original creator Kousuke Oono also said he thinks that the method suits the fast-paced atmosphere of the manga. He feels that the speed of the gags was not spoiled by the various ways of showing and directing with limited materials. Lastly, he thinks that it helps the voice actors’ performances to be directly felt and enjoyed. You can check out the trailer below:
Tsuda Kenjiro will give voice to the former yakuza boss Tatsu, while Shizuka Itou voices his wife Miku. We’ll see what the anime actually looks like in ~20 minute episodes and if the approach was worth it when it’s out. It’s a hilarious manga, and I can’t wait to watch it as an anime!

The Way of the Househusband premieres in just a few days on April 8, and we’ll be able to see if the animation is satisfying then. You’ll be able to watch it exclusively on Netflix.
