The Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun anime project is getting a new anime project, as announced earlier today with a teaser visual and an announcement trailer. The release date is set for 2023. There are still no details about the staff and the project is described “anime project restart.”
Megumi Ogata and Akari Kito can be heard in the special trailer. The two voiced Hanako and Nene in the first season of the TV anime, which was animated by Lerche. The first season premiered in 2020 and had 12 episodes, but cut out many parts from the source material. Masaomi Ando directed it. In 2020, the series also announced a musical.
The anime is based on a manga by AidaIro. Yen Press describes the plot as:
“Hanako-san, Hanako-san… are you there?” At Kamome Academy, rumors abound about the school’s Seven Mysteries, one of which is Hanako-san. Said to occupy the third stall of the third floor girls’ bathroom in the old school building, Hanako-san grants any wish when summoned. Nene Yashiro, an occult-loving high school girl who dreams of romance, ventures into this haunted bathroom… but the Hanako-san she meets there is nothing like she imagined! Kamome Academy’s Hanako-san… is a boy!
AidaIro also drew an illustration to commemorate the new announcement:
