Tokyo Ghoul is a Japanese dark fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Sui Ishida. It serialized from September 2011 to September 2014, and has fourteen compilation volumes. Tokyo Ghoul:re is the sequel manga, which was serialized from October 2014 to July 2018. It began celebrating the 10th anniversary, with a visual and website last year, later revealing an exhibition.

The original Tokyo Ghoul manga received an anime adaptation in Summer 2014. The second season, titled Tokyo Ghoul √A, followed an original story and aired in Winter 2015. The sequel manga, Tokyo Ghoul:re, also received an anime adaptation, which aired for two seasons: the first in Spring 2018, and the second in Fall 2018.

A live-action film based on the manga was released in Japan in July 2017, with a sequel being released in July 2019.

VIZ licensed the manga, and they describe the story:
Shy Ken Kaneki is thrilled to go on a date with the beautiful Rize. But it turns out that she’s only interested in his body—eating it, that is. When a morally questionable rescue transforms him into the first half-human half-Ghoul hybrid, Ken is drawn into the dark and violent world of Ghouls, which exists alongside our own.
