Vampire Hunter D Announces Blu-ray Remaster and Revival Screening

A Blu-ray remaster edition of the 2001 anime movie Vampire Hunter D has been announced for a March 26, 2025release date, featuring both the English theatrical version and a Japanese-dubbed version. Additionally, the Japanese-dubbed version will be screened in select Japanese theaters for one week starting on February 28.

Vampire Hunter D is a dark fantasy anime movie directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri at MADHOUSE, based on the third novel in Hideyuki Kikuchi’s Vampire Hunter D series, which is titled D – Demon Deathchase. The story follows D, a half-vampire (dhampir) bounty hunter who is going after a vampire who kidnapped a young woman. The movie was first released in the US in 2000, while a Japanese release followed in 2001. It it was screened in English with Japanese subtitles.

The Vampire Hunter D franchise began as a novel series by Hideyuki Kikuchi in 1983, featuring illustrations by Yoshitaka Amano (Final Fantasy). The franchise went on to get two anime adaptations, manga, and video games.
