Strawberry Prince J-Pop Group to Have Anime Film in Summer 2024

An anime film about the J-pop group Strawberry Prince has been announced. The film will be released in the summer of this year, with a teaser visual and trailer released following the announcement. Studio Lidenfilms is animating.

Naoki Matsuura, who worked as an episode director for anime titles such as Black Clover and Attack on Titan The Final Season Part 2 and directed the Liar Liar anime series, is directing this film. Chika Suzumura (Burn The Witch, Kurage no Shokudo) is writing the script, Yumi Nakamura (Liar Liar, Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku, Raven of the Inner Palace) is doing the character designs, while Yoneda Takahiro (In/Spectre, Birdie Wing, Watamote) will serve as the art director.

The Strawberry Prince group, currently handled by STPR Records, was formed in June 2016. The group is composed of six members: Nanamori, Jel, Satomi, Colon, Rinu, and Root. Former members included Kanna, Shiyun, Ketchup, and Yuuku. Each of the members is represented with an illustrated character when appearing in videos.

Since their debut in 2016, Strawberry Prince has released four albums: Strawberry Love! (2019), Strawberry Next! (2020), Strawberry Prince (2020), and Here We Go!!. The group has also released four EP collections namely Are You Ready? (2022), Strawberry Prince Lofi Remix (2022), Strawberry Prince Lofi Remix Vol.2 (2022), and more recently Rainbow-Colored History (2023).

Some of the group’s tracks have been featured in various media. Their songs “Gingira Ginga” and “Dai Uchū Rendezvous” were used as ending themes for the Yo-kai Watch Jam: Yo-kai Academy Y – Waiwai Gakuen Seikatsu video game, and as opening themes for the 2019 anime Yo-kai Watch Jam – Yo-kai Academy Y: Close Encounters of the N Kind.
