Weekly Shonen Jump Falls Below 1 Million Average Print Circulation for the First Time Ever

Weekly Shonen Jump has fallen below an average print circulation of one million copies for the first time since audited figures began, according to new data released by the Japan Magazine Publishers Association.

The publisher’s latest certified circulation report shows that Weekly Shonen Jump averaged 985,000 printed copies between April and June 2026. The figures are based on certified print circulation, which is published quarterly with support from Japan’s printing industry.

Japan’s best-selling manga magazine once dominated the industry during its peak in the 1990s. Weekly Shonen Jump reached its all-time high with the combined New Year 1995 issue, released in December 1994, when it recorded a historic circulation of 6.53 million copies. That’s still the highest figure ever achieved by a manga magazine.

Despite the decline in print circulation, Weekly Shonen Jump is still home to some of Japan’s biggest manga series, including ONE PIECE, HUNTER x HUNTER, SAKAMOTO DAYS, Akane-banashi, Kagurabachi, Ichi the Witch, and newer titles such as Someone Hertz.

The same quarterly report lists Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine with an average certified circulation of 281,000 copies, Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday at 120,000 copies, and Shogakukan’s Monthly CoroCoro Comic at approximately 213,000 copies.

Founded in 1968 as the twice-monthly Shonen Jump before becoming a weekly publication in 1969, Weekly Shonen Jump has launched some of the most successful manga franchises of all time, including Dragon Ball, Slam Dunk, Naruto, BLEACH, Hunter x Hunter, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, and ONE PIECE. While its print circulation has steadily declined with the shift toward digital reading, the magazine is still one of the most influential manga publications.
