YAIBA: Samurai Legend Season 2, the Kaguya Arc, revealed the main anime visual and a January 9, 2027 premiere date. WIT STUDIO is handling the animation for the new adaptation of Gosho Aoyama’s manga, which released its first season last year.
The visual shows Yaiba wielding the Thunder God Sword against Onimaru’s Wind God Sword. Takahiro Hasui directs the anime at WIT STUDIO, with Toko Machida handling series composition and Yoshimichi Kameda serving as character designer and chief animation director. Studio Kurm provides animation production cooperation. You can see the new visual below.
Studio Kurm is a CyberAgent subsidiary established on October 1, 2025, with anime producer Maiko Okada as its president. Okada previously served as animation producer on YAIBA: Samurai Legend Season 1, which credited WIT STUDIO for animation production. For Season 2, Studio Kurm is credited with the animation production cooperation, while WIT STUDIO remains the main animation studio.
YAIBA (stylized as Y∀IBA) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by the veteran Gosho Aoyama, who is also known as the creator of Magic Kaito and Case Closed/Detective Conan. The manga was serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday from September 1988 to December 1993. Its got an anime adaptation by studio Pastel in the 90s, and it ran for 52 episodes from April 1993 to April 1994.
The story follows Yaiba Kurogane, a young man who unexpectedly returns to Japan after training in the jungle to become a true samurai. He begins living with the Mine family, and an ancient power awakens following his clash with a skilled kendo practictioner, Takeshi Onimaru. An updated visual was also released:
