Yona of the Dawn Musical Adaptation Announced, Begins in July 2024

Yona of the Dawn (Akatsuki no Yona) manga is getting adapted into a musical, and will be performed in Tokyo, Japan from July 2024. It will be directed by Tsuneyasu Motoyoshi, with Aoto Tani in charge of the script, music by Kamata Masato and choreography by Shinji Rachi. It will cover the Gathering the Four Dragons arc, which is covered in the first volume. A visual starring Yona was also released.

Yona of the Dawn is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Mizuho Kusanagi. It has been serialized in Hakusensha’s shojo manga magazine Hana to Yume since August 2009, with 43 compiled volumes released as of February 2024. It is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year and has a total circulation of over 14 million copies of its volumes.

An anime adaptation by Pierrot aired for two consecutive cours from October 2014. Crunchyroll is streaming it, and they describe the story:

Currently, Hiryuu Palace has no one else next in line for the throne other than the fifteen year old princess, Yona, who had been raised with care. Finally, the night of her sixteenth birthday arrives. She expects it to be a wonderful day spent with her peace-loving father, Il, her servant and friend Hak, and her cousin Soo-won, who she had feelings for… However… That night, Yona goes to visit her father to tell him how she really feels, because he opposes to her getting married to Soo-won. However, when she gets to her room, she encounters a shocking truth.
