The upcoming Kinnikuman anime by Production I.G revealed two new key visuals ahead of its July 2024 premiere date. Mamoru Miyano is voicing Kinnikuman, with Akira Kamiya (who was the original Kinnikuman) voicing both Mayumi Kinniku and Prince Kamehame. The new visuals represent Justice and Demon versions, and you can see both below.
The new Kinnikuman anime series will be adapting the 2011 revival of Yudetamago’s original Kinnikuman manga, starting with the Perfect Origin arc. It is also celebrating the original anime show’s 40th anniversary.
Akira Sato (Aoashi) will serve as the director, with Hirotaka Marufuji (Aquarion Evol) as the character designer, Makoto Fukami in charge of the series composition and Yasuharu Takanashi on the music. You can watch the previously released teaser trailer for the anime below.
Kinnikuman is a Japanese manga series created by Yoshinori Nakai and Takashi Shimada, also known as Yudetamago. It was originally published by Shuiesha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from 1979 to 1987 before restarting publication in 2011 in Shuiesha’s Shu Play news web magazine.
There is also a sequel, the Kinnikuman: The 2nd Generation (known as Ultimate Muscle outside Japan) manga that was serialized in Weekly Playboy between 1998 and 2004. It was also adapted into three different television series, all of which were broadcast on TV Tokyo in Japan and released in North America by 4Kids Entertainment.
It is one of the best-selling manga series in Japan, selling over 77 million copies by 2021. The series has inspired several spin-off manga, anime series, films, games, and merchandise. The original Kinnikuman anime series was produced by Toei Animation and aired from 1983 to 1986 for a total of 137 episodes.
The Kinnikuman website describes the plot of the upcoming anime as:
The three types of hero groups – justice superheroes, demon superheroes, and perfect superheroes – each raising their own righteousness, will unravel their tale in a new three-way fight! Amidst that, the roots of these fighters who hail from the ‘superhero’ species will be revealed, along with intense human dramas within their respective organizations, new offense and defense-minded hero techniques, and an unchanging drama of friendship…!
