Yu-Gi-Oh! Special New Animation by KONAMI Released for Kazuki Takahashi Art Exhibition

A new Yu-Gi-Oh! special animation has been released to commemorate KAZUKI TAKAHASHI: YU-GI-OH! ART WORKS, the first original art exhibition dedicated to series creator Kazuki Takahashi.

The short animation brings Yugi and other familiar characters together in Domino City, with Blue-Eyes White Dragon also appearing alongside Seto Kaiba. Eri Osada directed the animation, with Hiroko Utsumi handling the storyboard. Takahiro Kagami served as character designer and 2D drawing director, while Haruka Taira was art director. KONAMI animation handled the animation production.

The project was created by the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime series production committee as part of celebration for the 30th anniversary of the original manga’s serialization.

KAZUKI TAKAHASHI: YU-GI-OH! ART WORKS will run from December 12, 2026 until February 21, 2027 at Creative Museum Tokyo in Japan. The exhibition will showcase original artwork by Kazuki Takahashi and marks the 30th anniversary of Yu-Gi-Oh!, which began serialization in 1996. Kazuki Takahashi launched Yu-Gi-Oh! in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 1996, with the manga running until 2004 and being collected in 38 volumes. The series went on to inspire multiple anime adaptations. Takahashi died in 2022 at the age of 60.

The story follows Yugi Muto, who solves an ancient Egyptian puzzle known as the Millennium Puzzle, which unleashes the spirit of a mysterious Pharaoh. They then have all kinds of card battles and other games to protect their friends and uncover the mystery behind Pharaoh’s lost memories.

The franchise has since become an iconic trading card game (Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG/OCG), multiple anime series (including Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, GX, 5D’s, ZEXAL, ARC-V, and more), video games, and movies. In related news, a remaster of the anime Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters GX was also recently announced for April 2025.
