Starting last year, the categories of Best Lead Voice Actor, Best Supporting Voice Actor, and New Voice Actor, were not separated by gender. This year’s awards ceremony also started with a moment of silence to mourn the passing of Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama and voice actress TARAKO. The awards also continued their tradition honoring all voice actors and actresses who passed away in the past year. Previously, Chika Anzai, Takuya Eguchi, and Atsumi Tanezaki were the recipients of the leading voice actor award at the 17th Seiyu Awards.
