It is written by Shigemitsu Harada and illustrated by Ikuta Hatsuya, with supervision from the author of the original, Akane Shimizu. The manga first started in June 2018 and it will have a total of 8 volumes, and the final one releases on February 22, 2021. The manga also got an anime adaptation which is currently airing, and you can watch one of the trailers:

Unlike the original, CODE BLACK is a story about an unhealthy body affected by drinking, smoking and the like. You can also read the full synopsis:

A rookie Red Blood Cell has been bustling about, frantically making oxygen deliveries all around the body! But his workplace is on the brink of going Code Black!! Drinking, smoking, stress, sleep deprivation… Struggling to survive a life not unlike the brutal corporate world, what must these overworked cells be thinking at the end of the day? This is a tale about the inside of your body…

If you didn’t watch/read the original, it follows the cells of the body as they fight against different kinds of threats.

The story of the original goes:

Strep throat! Hay fever! Influenza! The world is a dangerous place for a red blood cell just trying to get her deliveries finished. Fortunately, she’s not alone … She’s got a whole human body’s worth of cells ready to help out! The mysterious white blood cell, the buff and brash killer T cell, the nerdy neuron, even the cute little platelets—everyone’s got to come together if they want to keep you healthy!

Both the original “Cells at Work” (January 26) and the CODE BLACK spin-off (January 21) end this month.
