The first installment of the HUNTER x HUNTER stage play was performed in May 2023, while the second one was performed between March and April 2024. Shion Otomo, who played Gon in the first two installments, commented:
“Hello everyone, this is Shion Otomo! The information about HUNTER×HUNTER THE STAGE 3 has been revealed! From this installment, Rento Nishiyama will play the role of Gon. Graduating from the HUNTER×HUNTER stage is bittersweet, but thanks to everyone’s support, I was truly happy to stand on stage as Gon for Parts 1 and 2!
Thank you so much!! I have so many truly, truly great memories of Gon, a character I dearly, dearly love. I hope Rento will enjoy playing Gon to the fullest and bring him to life in front of everyone! I will definitely go watch it!!”
The new actor also commented:
“Nice to meet you all. My name is Rento Nishiyama, and I will be playing the role of Gon.
The original work and the stage play are both very popular, so when I received the news of passing the audition, I felt a mix of joy, excitement, and sudden nervousness, experiencing emotions I had never felt before.
I want to properly express Gon’s curiosity, seriousness at times, and strong inner core. I’m also looking forward to seeing how the battle scenes, where cards are strategically used in the game world, will be staged.
I will live as Gon to the best of my ability, so I would be happy if you came to the theater to watch!”
Yoshihiro Togashi has been drawing the HUNTER x HUNTER manga since March 1998. It is serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, having returned after a 4-year hiatus in October 2022.
Since then, there have been irregular releases, and the manga was confirmed to be moving away from a weekly schedule in December 2022. It released Volume 38 on September 4 in Japan, while Chapter 401 was released in the WSJ magazine on October 7. The manga is now on break again, with Togashi recently sharing new health issues.
Crunchyroll streams the anime, describing the story:
Gon, a young boy who lives on Whale Island, dreams of becoming a Hunter like his father, who left when Gon was still young.
