Yoshihiro Togashi’s Hunter x Hunter has officially surpassed 100 million copies in circulation worldwide, including digital editions, ahead of the release of Volume 39 on July 3. To commemorate the milestone, Shueisha announced a series of promotional events, including a large-scale campaign in Tokyo’s Shibuya district and a limited-time free release of 340 manga chapters in Japan.

The “Shibuya Hunter Town” campaign will run from June 29 to July 5, featuring Shibuya transformed into a citywide character hunt featuring more than 100 characters from the series in street ads. Fans will be able to scan QR codes at each display to unlock characters on the campaign’s official website, while fans unable to attend in person will also be able to download digital content as additional characters are discovered.

On July 3, Shueisha will also publish a special thank-you newspaper advertisement in the morning edition of The Asahi Shimbun, while a commemorative PV celebrating the series reaching 100 million copies will be released.

To mark the milestone, Shonen Jump+ and Zebrack are making 340 chapters of the manga available to read for free for a limited time. The campaign covers every major arc from the Hunter Exam Arc through the Election and Alluka Arc.

Togashi has been drawing the Hunter x Hunter manga since March 1998. It is serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, while it returned after a 4-year hiatus in October 2022.

Since then, there have been irregular releases, and the manga was confirmed to be moving away from a weekly schedule in December 2022. The manga released Volume 38 on September 4, 2024 in Japan, while Chapter 401 was released in the WSJ magazine on October 7 of the same year. It went up to 410 chapters before going on break again on December 8, 2024.

Crunchyroll is streaming the anime, describing the story:
Gon, a young boy who lives on Whale Island, dreams of becoming a Hunter like his father, who left when Gon was still young.

The series released two new games since then: HUNTER x HUNTER: NEN IMPACT, which launched on July 17, 2025, and HUNTERxHUNTER NENxSURVIVOR, which launched on February 17, 2026.
