MF Ghost to End in 6 Chapters, Initial D 30th-Anniversary Project Announced

The Amazon listing for the upcoming Weekly Young Magazine 2025 Issue 7 reveals that Shuichi Shigeno’s MF Ghost manga series will end in 6 chapters. The series is the sequel to Initial D, which was confirmed to receive a special project to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

You can check out the Weekly Young Magazine cover confirming MF Ghost‘s ending and Initial D‘s upcoming anniversary projects below (top right). It will be released on January 10.

MF Ghost ending in 6 chapters; Initial D anniversary project announced.

The text on-screen reads, “6 chapters left until the final chapter!! Initial D 30th Anniversary! There will be a special project!! Kanata aims for his first victory with full throttle!!!” The Amazon listing reads, “Shigeno Shuichi’s ‘MF Ghost’ is nearing completion! The climax of the final MFG battle!!! 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the start of the ‘Initial D’ series! A special project is also coming soon!

MF Ghost released Chapter 269 on January 6. The new Chapter 270 drops on January 10 and is not counted as one of the 6 remaining ones, which means that Chapter 276 will be the final one. The bittersweet announcement follows the anime’s Season 3 confirmation two weeks ago, releasing a picturesque new visual of the racers heading to The Peninsula Manazuru.

The manga has struggled with hiatuses, going on breaks in November 2022 and April 2023; Shigeno returned in June of that year. It has over 5.8 million copies in circulation as of September 2024.

With a special project expected this year for Initial D‘s 30th anniversary, perhaps fans can get their hopes up for news on the potential live-action film being developed by Fast & Furious actor Sung Kang. Fans can stream the MF Ghost anime on Crunchyroll; Kodansha USA licenses the manga in North America. It’s described:
The author of Initial D has roared back onto the track with another hit! In a near future where cars have mostly switched over to sustainable power, combustion engine racing is a rarity. The MFG is the last major race for this dying breed, and half-Japanese Kanata Rivington has come back to try his luck. But that’s not all he’s come to Japan to do…he’s searching for his father, too. Can even the ambitious Kanata accomplish all he’s set out to do?
