The long-awaited Episode 60 (Season 3, Episode 10) of Re:ZERO – Starting Life in Another World- aired today, delivering an intense action-packed experience which is already being highly praised online for its animation quality and direction. According to Yasuaki Fujii, who was in charge of the episode’s storyboarding and direction, the production of Re:ZERO Episode 60 took approximately a year and a half to complete.
In a post on February 12, 2025, Fujii, whose X account is named ジーさん (Jii-san) (@7GSrBnGQL51639) shared insight into the lengthy production of Re:ZERO Episode 60, mentioning that it was a “long process” from the initial storyboard stage to completion. The post also highlighted that Episode 60 was an “intense battle-heavy episode,” which we could see for ourselves when it was released.
Re:ZERO Season 3 Production Timeline & High-Quality Animation
Studio WHITE FOX is handling the animation, and their approach to maintaining a high standard of quality was apparent with the two-month gap between the two 8-episode cours. A production timeline of 1.5 years suggests that Episode 60 required a lot of effort in terms of animation, and it seems to have paid off as it delivered a very strong showing for an important part of the story.
One of the episode’s animation directors, Haruka Sagawa (@sw_8a6u), also commented on the post, expressing admiration for the episode’s intensity and mentioning how enjoyable the production process was. Their full comment reads:
“This was an incredibly intense episode, and I learned a lot!
Also, the production process was so enjoyable! Thank you for your hard work!!!”
Fujii further responded with gratitude, adding that “every character looked cool and adorable.”
In a separate X post, Sagawa said this was their favorite episode and shared the following illustration of Priscilla.
More About Re:ZERO Season 3
The main Re:ZERO Season 3 anime staff has Masahiro Shinohara as its director, with Haruka Sagawa as the character designer/chief animation director, Masahiro Yokotani on the series composition, and Kenichiro Suehiro on the music.
We had the opportunity to interview Shinohara and Sagawa last year, along with Subaru’s Japanese voice actor Yusuke Kobayashi. Back then, Shinohara emphasized his intent to ensure Season 3 had a strong start, saying: “…rather than trying to keep things relatively calm or not go too hard in the first episode, I wanted to actually do the opposite and really power up and make sure that Season 3 starts off strong and continues strong.”
Re:ZERO Season 3 topped our weekly ranking after its premiere in Week 5, and you can vote for today’s episode again for Week 6. Its strongest competition this week may be Solo Leveling Season 2, which itself had arguably its strongest episode of the season so far.
The Re:ZERO light novel by Tappei Nagatsuki first started on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website in April 2012. The light novel version began in January 2014, featuring illustrations by Shin’ichiro Otsuka. Both are currently ongoing. The first season of the TV anime adaptation ran for 25 episodes from April to September 2016. Season 2 followed with 2 split cours, which aired through the Summer 2020 and Winter 2021 anime seasons.
