Franky, the shipwright of the Straw Hat Pirates, celebrates his birthday on March 9, and the official ONE PIECE accounts marked the occasion with a new 2025 illustration. Known for his cyborg modifications and engineering skills, Franky plays a key role in maintaining the Thousand Sunny and also making us laugh.
Incredible birthday illustrations were also shared for two ONE PIECE legends who share the birthday with Franky—Red-Haired Shanks and Dracule “Hawk Eyes” Mihawk. Earlier this year, both Vivi Nefertari and Nico Robin also got special 2025 birthday illustrations.

The main @Eiichiro_Staff account also posted a celebratory image for Franky’s birthday, showcasting him in his iconic “Superrrrrr” pose.
Franky’s Role in ONE PIECE’s Story
Like each of the Straw Hat Pirates, Franky is crucial for his engineering skills and handling the ship’s technical side. As more dangerous enemies appear and the mysteries of the Void Century unravel, Franky’s knowledge of Pluton and shipbuilding expertise will certainly play a crucial role moving forward.
Franky Has a New Voice Actor
Following Kazuki Yao’s retirement from the role. Franky will be having a new voice after the show’s return next month. At last year’s Jump Festa, Subaru Kimura was confirmed as the new voice actor. Kimura is known for voicing characters like Aoi Todo in JUJUTSU KAISEN and Satori Tendo in Haikyu!! Yao was Franky’s voice actor since the character’s debut in ONE PIECE Episode 233, which aired in Japan on May 22, 2005.
Upcoming ONE PIECE Content
- ONE PIECE anime is set to return on April 6, 2025, after the special Fish-Man Island Saga re-edited version finishes airing in its place.
- The ONE PIECE live-action Season 2, which recently featuring new cast announcements and storyline progression, has wrapped filming and is coming soon.
