As part of its 10th anniversary initiatives, Shueisha’s manga platform Shonen Jump+ (Shonen Jump Plus) has launched a new anime adaptation project focused on one-shot manga. Three animation studios: WIT Studio, Production I.G, and CONTRAIL, each of which will produce one adaptation. The project is being led by JOEN, a production company formed by CloverWorks, WIT Studio, Aniplex and Shueisha to enable animation studios to oversee projects from planning through final execution.
While the specific titles to be adapted have not yet been announced, updates will be released via the Shonen Jump+ app and the platform’s official 10th anniversary website.
This announcement follows the October 2024 debut of the One-Shot Discovery portal, which showcases more than 2,000 one-shots published over the past decade. The site offers various discovery tools, including interviews with notable manga fans, year-by-year rankings, creator recommendations, and a full catalog of one-shot works.
Shonen Jump+ has consistently emphasized one-shots as a key feature of its editorial direction, supporting new artists aiming for serialization as well as established creators having a go at standalone stories. In recent years, the platform has published over 200 one-shots annually. Among these, Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Look Back gained significant attention and was later adapted into an animated film.
A representative from the project explained the intent behind the initiative in detail:
“Shonen Jump+ has published over 2,000 one-shot works. Why so many? There are many reasons, but one of them is our desire to discover new manga talent. Many up-and-coming artists have taken on the challenge of creating one-shots, channeling their pure passion and love for manga into each piece. From that, many works supported by readers have emerged. This time, those sparks of talent will be further refined by the anime industry’s top creators. And with such skilled studios involved, the final anime productions are sure to be compelling. We’ll be sharing more information gradually, so please stay tuned and look forward to what’s ahead.”
