One Piece Season 2 Live-Action Prepares For Special Announcement With New Teaser Video

Netflix has released a special teaser video for ONE PIECE live-action Season 2, hinting at a major announcement scheduled for May 31 during its annual TUDUM fan event. While the teaser offers no details, the timing suggests Netflix is preparing to break its long silence on the release date and direction of the new season.

ONE PIECE Season 2 Live-Action Might Be Closer Than You Think

Season 1 of ONE PIECE premiered globally on August 31, 2023, quickly dominating Netflix’s English-language TV rankings with over 18.5 million views and 140.1 million hours streamed in its opening week. It held its top spot into the second week, marking a rare live-action anime adaptation success.

Despite the strong reception, Netflix has remained relatively quiet about Season 2. A previous 2025 release window was briefly posted on the official TUDUM website but was later removed without explanation. Now, with this new teaser and the May 31 TUDUM presentation coming soon, the streaming platform seems ready to reveal the big news.

Casting and Plot Details: What We Know

Filming for Season 2 has already wrapped, and over 20 new characters are confirmed, including key figures from the Drum Island arc such as Crocodile, Vivi, and Nico Robin. The new cast includes Rigo Sanchez (Dragon), Yonda Thomas (Igaram), and Sophia Anne Caruso (Miss Goldenweek), among others.

According to manga creator Eiichiro Oda, the new cast is “perfect,” and the upcoming season will surpass its predecessor. Season 2 will cover events up through the end of Drum Island, setting the stage for the Alabasta saga in future seasons.

Behind-the-Scenes Shifts: Showrunner Matt Owens Departed

A surprising twist emerged earlier this year when showrunner Matt Owens announced his departure from the series via Instagram. Citing the intensity of the project and a need to prioritize his mental health, Owens said he would be “stepping off the Going Merry” to take a break.

Despite his announcement, Owens is still listed as a returning showrunner for Season 3 in a production credit filed with the Writers Guild of America West (WGAW).

The WGAW, a key registry for screenwriting and production credits in the U.S., listed Season 3 as entering development with a 2025–2026 production timeline. While such listings are not always definitive, they often signal contracts and development efforts already underway.

Season 3 Confirmation from the Cast

Adding credibility to the WGAW listing, actor Joe Manganiello, who is set to portray Mr. 0 (Crocodile), recently confirmed in an interview with Cinemablend that filming for Season 3 will begin later this year. “We’ve taken a break between Season 2 and Season 3,” Manganiello stated. “So yeah, I’ll be heading back later on this year, and we’ll be working on the next part of the story.”

Looking Ahead

All signs point to Netflix using its TUDUM 2025 event to finally reveal details about Season 2 of ONE PIECE, possibly including a release window, new footage, or additional cast reveals (including Chopper’s portrayal). Considering the show’s popularity and the apparent development of Season 3, Netflix appears committed to continuing its adaptation of Oda’s legendary manga.
