A-1 Pictures Launches New Internal Animation Label Psyde Kick Studio

Anime studio A-1 Pictures has announced the creation of an internal label titled Psyde Kick Studio, intended to serve as a new creative outlet within the company.

According to the official statement, the label was founded “with the aim of pursuing freer and more original expression, based on the production knowledge and expertise A-1 Pictures has cultivated up to now.”

The studio added that it intends to focus on “initiatives that challenge young creators” and “the development of innovative planning and production workflows.” Through these efforts, the label aims to avoid being constrained by existing structures and “explore new possibilities in animation.”

The label’s name, Psyde Kick, was chosen to reflect a concept of collaboration and experimental spirit. A-1 Pictures explains that it “combines the word ‘sidekick’ with ‘psycho’ and ‘psychedelic,’ expressing the hope that this free and individualistic blend will lead to new challenges and support a wider range of creative endeavors.”

Looking ahead, the company notes that multiple new projects are planned under the Psyde Kick Studio label. Specific titles or timelines were not revealed.

The announcement comes at a time of significant structural diversification within the anime industry. Earlier this year, Aniplex and Crunchyroll (both Sony Group subsidiaries) launched HAYATE, a joint production venture intended to streamline content development for global distribution platforms.

In February, acclaimed director Masaaki Yuasa also announced the founding of his new studio, ame pippin, in partnership with Aniplex, Asmik Ace, and CoMix Wave Films.
