Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba manga, written and drawn by Koyoharu Gotouge, has reached a new milestone with over 220 million copies in circulation worldwide, including digital editions. The series, which concluded in May 2020 after four years and three months of serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump, continues to have a strong presence both domestically and internationally.
Of the total copies, approximately 164 million were sold in Japan, with around 56 million sold overseas. The series’ popularity significantly increased following the 2019 release of the anime adaptation’s first season, which led to a large rise in manga sales.
The sales data shows a consistent upward trend since then. From roughly 3.5 million copies in circulation by April 2019, the series grew to over 100 million by October 2020, and 150 million by February 2021. Growth has continued steadily since the manga’s conclusion.
The franchise’s first movie, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, released in October 2020 and became the highest-grossing film in Japanese box office history, earning approximately 40.4 billion yen (~$271 million USD) domestically and about 51.7 billion yen worldwide (~$347 million USD).
The latest installment in the anime adaptation, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle – Part 1: Akaza Returns, is scheduled to premiere in Japanese theaters on July 18. The earliest screenings will begin at midnight, and tickets sold out within minutes of release. The film is the first of the already confirmed trilogy covering the Infinity Castle Arc, which covers the final chapters of the manga.
