Umamusume: Cinderella Gray Synopsis
Born and raised in the boondocks, life’s always been difficult for Oguri Cap. Like all umamusume, running is Oguri’s greatest love. But due to weak knees, even a leisurely walk is beyond her capabilities. However, thanks to her mom’s support and her perseverance, Oguri not only managed to run but also enrolled in a local racing academy. There, she raced for the love of the sport. But once her talent reveals itself, Oguri’s true potential erupts, and she quickly finds herself competing and winning at the national level.
The real-life Oguri Cap won 22 out of the 32 races he ran, including 4 Grade 1 victories. His biggest wins include a double in the 2500-meter Arima Kinen, the 1989 Mile Championship, and the 1990 Yasuda Kinen. Oguri Cap also took home the 1988 JRA Award for Best Three-Year-Old Colt and the 1990 JRA Award for Best Older Male Horse. In 1990, he was also named Horse of the Year. The following year, he was inducted into the JRA Hall of Fame.
He lived to the ripe old age of 25 and passed away on July 3, 2010. He’s remembered as a member of the “Heisei Big Tree,” a group of racehorses credited with reigniting Japan’s love for racing. If only he knew what he accomplished for the sport globally.
