Demon Slayer Movie Sells Over 486,000 Blu-ray and DVD Copies

Demon Slayer: Mugen Train is once again topping the charts. This time it reached the top spot on both Oricon’s Weekly DVD Rankings and Weekly Blu-ray Rankings. In the first 24 hours of the Blu-ray and DVD release, over 486,000 copies of the discs were sold.

268,000 limited edition Blu-rays were sold, while the standard DVD edition sold 218,000. The special edition of the Blu-ray includes extra materials, such as exclusive illustrations and a commentary track narrated by the main cast. The studio behind the franchise, ufotable, also designed a special inner jacket illustration.

Demon Slayer movie topped the charts both in Japan and overseas. It is currently the highest-grossing movie in Japan of all time. Demon Slayer: Mugen Train was also the first Japanese movie to make over 50 billion yen at the worldwide box office.

Haruo Sotozaki directed the movie, while the chief animation director, Akira Matsushima also did the character designs. Ufotable was in charge of the screenplay, with Yuichi Terao as director of photography. Yuki Kajiura and Go Shiina composed the music for the movie.

The anime cast also returned for the movie. Natsuki Hanae plays Tanjiro, while Akari Kito stars as Nezuko. Hiro Shimono is once again Zenitsu. Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, Satoshi Hino, and Daisuke Hirakawa also star in the movie. Demon Slayer movie was also dubbed in English, with Zach Aguilar, Abby Trott, and Aleks Le in the main roles.

Demon Slayer: Mugen Train synopsis

The movie follows the events of the first season of the anime. The official UK website for the movie describes the plot as:
Tanjiro and the group have completed their rehabilitation training at the Butterfly Mansion, and they arrive to their next mission on the Mugen train, where over 40 people have disappeared in a very short period of time. Tanjiro and Nezuko, along with Zenitsu and Inosuke, join one of the most powerful swordsmen within the Demon Slayer Corps, Flame Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku, to face the demon aboard the Mugen Train on track to despair.
