Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy Episode 12 — An Explosive Finale!

“Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy” episode 12 is finally out! I must say, what a spectacular finale this was! Makoto’s battle with the demons stole the show and I am honestly fangirling about it. The episode is titled, “Guided by the Moon.”

The episode begins right where it the previous one ended last week. Makoto finds himself in the middle of a battlefield between humans and demons. (Something I forgot until now.) Battle ensues, and honestly, I was really worried for Makoto. I was waiting for Mio or Tomoe to come to the rescue but that’s when I realized that we’ve been relying on them for a long time. I forgot how powerful Makoto is and boy, was I in for quite the surprise.

An Epic Battle!

Apparently, the two humans think that Makoto serves the Goddess. We meet Sofia, the dragon slayer, and her companion, Mitsurugi. They don’t even give Makoto a chance to explain. One after another, however, Makoto is able to keep up with them in battle. Makoto becomes overwhelmingly strong later on, even breaking Sofia’s sword! As their last resort, they throw Makoto to fall to his death. Unfortunately for them, this just gave Makoto the opportunity to unleash the craziest explosion on the battlefield. (Damn, boy!)

Chills and goosebumps! The action sequence was awesomely entertaining. My favorite part is that we got to see Makoto’s fighting abilities. He unleashed a lot of crazy power on a large scale! He had his archery enveloped with brid magic plus that dual offensive and defensive Kai. And when Makoto changed his coat and removed his nuclear bomb rings? Ahhh, hands down, the best moment of the series. Visual bliss, I’d say.

Makoto’s Curse and Blessing

It gives me so much happiness seeing Makoto finally go all out. He was just ridiculously awesome. (I daresay that this was even more epic than Rimuru’s final battle with Clayman.) I admit that I felt emotional about the fact that despite his unlucky curse/situation from the annoying Goddess, his strength also comes from Tsukuyomi’s blessing. That’s the episode title right there.

In addition, Makoto gets to scare two of the most powerful adventurers. Their reactions were absolutely fun to watch! One reason why this fight is really satisfying is that it wasn’t just your usual hack-and-slash. It incorporated laws of magic and elements plus a realistic sense of battle tactics! Both parties were smart and calculating. I love it.

Needless to say, the animation and effects were breathtaking in this one. It was all amazing and exciting. (Chef’s kiss!) Plus, listening to the voice actors and the soundtrack was a nice treat.

Peace and Prosperity

When Makoto awakens, he finds Tomoe and Mio sleeping beside him. This running gag is always funny as Makoto tries his best to remain respectful. The rest of “Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy” episode 12 welcomes Makoto back to his peaceful life in the demi-plane. The nation is growing in population and it’s really nice seeing them so happy. There are glimpses of the Ogre’s recruitment and training, the shop’s fascinating marketing strategy, and lastly, the introduction of a new offshoot — Komoe! I’m really happy to see this precious little girl.

I was hoping that Tomoe and Mio would travel with Makoto now, but apparently, he wants to keep them safe from the prying eyes of the Goddess. Plus, they’ll be his trump card. Interesting! We also discover that a certain “red-coated-disciple” is responsible for both human and demon casualties. This also introduces us to the fact that there are more “otherworlders” in this world…

A Nostalgic Journey

Honestly, this finale took me by surprise. It delivered way better than I expected! It made me feel very nostalgic about the journey so far — how Makoto met his companions one by one to having his own prosperous nation. Makoto’s powers grew and he’s overwhelmingly strong and adept at it. It’s a lot of feels and a lot of fun.

A Surprisingly Good Show

I feel like this finale gave “Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy” the love it deserves. Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy” episode 12 definitely made it all the more awesome. I mentioned before that the plot lost me somewhere, however, I’ve come to understand (appreciate, even) the quick pace and storyline. Yes, I have so many questions about a lot of things. But I’m really optimistic about it, and just like Makoto, I want to discover the journey in its own time. I definitely loved the fact that it ended with the chaotic energies of Tomoe, Mio, and Shiki.

All in all, “Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy” has been a fun and interesting watch this summer! It wasn’t exactly a masterpiece, but it had all the elements for an enjoyable anime. The animation was really good in the right moments. The comedy was pleasant too. My absolute favorite is the trio’s shenanigans together. I will miss them, and I cannot wait to see them soon. That’s right — a second season was announced! How awesome is that?
