Masaaki Yuasa’s upcoming movie Inu-Oh revealed a new teaser visual. The movie already premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, with a public theatrical release coming in the Summer of 2022 in Japan. Yuasa’s Science SARU studio is animating.
Inu-Oh is based on a novel by Hideo Furukawa. Akiko Nogi wrote the script, while Nobutake Itou did the character designs. Hideki Nakamura is the art director for the movie.
The story follows Inu-Oh, who is born with unique characteristics. The adults around him are horrified and try to hide him by making him cover up and wear a met. But, one day he meets Tomona, a blind boy who is a talented biwa player. Two connect through music, and Inu-Oh discovers a talent of his own. Together they travel while trying to use music and dance to break the curse.
Queen Bee’s vocalist Avu-chan is voicing Inu-Oh, while Mirai Moriyama voices Tomona. Tasuku Emoto, Kenjiro Tsuda, and Yutaka Matsushige are also part of the cast.
GKIDS is distributing the movie for North America, and has a teaser trailer with English subtitles available:
Inu-Oh is Masaaki Yuasa’s first movie since 2019’s Ride Your Wave. The director is best known for his work on Tatami Galaxy, as well as movies The Night is Short, Walk On Girl and Lu Over the Wall.
