The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2 will have 13 episodes across three Blu-ray/DVD volumes, the official Twitter and website confirmed today. The series will premiere on April 6, 2022, while a third season is also in the works.

The first Blu-ray/DVD volume of the show contains episodes 1 to 4, and it will be released on July 27, 2022. The second volume will be available starting on August 24 and will contain episodes 5 to 8. Episodes 9 to 13 will be included in volume 3, which will be released on September 28. The second season of The Rising of the Shield Hero was animated by studio DR Movie (Elsword) and Kinema Citrus, while Masato Jinbo (Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 2Wei!, Shakugan no Shana) is directing. The first season was directed by Takao Abo (Norn9), while Kinema Citrus also (Made in Abyss, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0) took care of the animation.
The Rising of the Shield Hero is a Japanese light novel series by Aneko Yusagi with Seira Minami’s illustrations. Media Factory started serializing it in August 2013, and it currently has 22 volumes available. A manga adaptation by Aiya Kyu is also being published by the same publisher in Monthly Comic Flapper magazine. The cumulative copies of both light novel and manga series have already exceeded 11 million copies in circulation.
One Piece Books is publishing The Rising of the Shield Hero light novel series in English. Season 2 will begin with volume 6 of the series, and you can read the synopsis below:
After their battle with Glass, Naofumi and his friends work to revitalize the Cal Mira islands before returning to the castle. On the ship back to Melromarc, they meet a young girl named Rishia, who claims to have been tricked and abandoned by her companions. Naofumi, sympathizing with her fate, agrees to listen to her story, and she joins the party. Eventually, Naofumi discovers that she has a talent for transformation magic, but before they can discuss it, someone comes running to beg the heroes for assistance. A monster wearing something like a turtle shell needs to be chased off. The monster is so powerful that even the mightiest adventurers cannot defeat him—so what hope is there for Naofumi? Those answers and more in volume 6 as the epic fantasy continues!
