The beloved Haikyu anime will end with a two-part final movie that has been officially announced earlier today. The sequel movies will mark the end of the story and the kick-off event for them is scheduled for August 2023. The highly-anticipated announcement for the fan-favorite sports anime comes after a 5-day countdown that began on the official website on August 8. Production I.G. is returning to animate the final movies for the Haikyu franchise.
The announcement trailer for the Haikyu movie features snippets of voiceover from the characters in the series. The final arc of the story should cover the Nekoma vs. Karasuno arc. Haikyu!! Week event is also taking place later this month: it will begin on August 19, so more information could be coming our way then.
Production I.G animated the anime adaptation of the Haikyu (stylized as Haikyu!!) series. The first season aired in 2014, followed by the sequel which started in the Fall of 2015 and finished during the Winter of 2016, after 25 episodes. Season 3, titled Haikyu!! Karasuno High School vs Shiratorizawa Academy had 10 episodes that aired throughout the Fall of 2016. Haikyu!! Riku vs Kuu OVA serves as its sequel. The latest installment of the anime Haikyuu!! To the Top aired in two cours – first in Winter 2020 and second in Fall 2020. In addition to the TV anime, the franchise also spawned multiple recap movies, OVAs, side stories, and an omake.
Haikyuu is based on a manga by Haruichi Furudate which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2012 to 2020. The manga ended after 405 chapters, compiled into 45 volumes. Viz Media licensed it in English and describes the plot as:
